There's no seafront café in Bareyo where you can have your morning coffee — that's what Ajo beach is for, a short walk from the villas. What the surrounding villages do have is a network of small, family-run places where the coffee is good, the omelette is made fresh every morning, and nobody overcharges you for sitting on the terrace.
The criteria for this list were simple: places that have been open for a long time, that locals genuinely recommend, and whose address, hours and, where published, price we could confirm. If we couldn't verify it, it's not here, no matter how often it turns up in some generic listicle. The result is four stops, each in a different village along the Trasmiera coast, to choose from depending on where you're heading that morning.
Panadería La Moderna, the closest breakfast spot to Bareyo
Ajo belongs to the same municipality as Bareyo, so if you don't feel like getting in the car, this is your spot. La Moderna is a bakery and café in one, with the bakehouse in full view and the counter stacked with pastries made fresh each morning. The classic here is a grilled croissant with a milky coffee, though they also make doughnuts and daily cakes. Since it's a neighbourhood bakery, the bread you take back to the villa is the same loaf baked every morning for the village.
Café Flower, in Noja, for early risers
Noja is about 15 minutes from Bareyo and has several cafés along its seafront promenade, but Café Flower stands out for something very simple: it opens at 7am, before almost anywhere else in town. If you're heading out early to the beach or coming back from a dawn surf, it's one of the few places where the coffee's already on. La Milla, the omelette café in San Miguel de Meruelo
San Miguel de Meruelo lies a bit further inland, about 10 minutes from Bareyo, and La Milla is the reason it's worth the detour. The signature breakfast is a generous serving of Spanish omelette, freshly squeezed juice and coffee, all for very little money. If the omelette doesn't tempt you, they also do sandwiches and toast in various forms, always in big, no-nonsense portions. It's an unpretentious village spot with regulars from first thing in the morning.
La Taberna de Moisés, bakery and bar in one, in Arnuero
In Arnuero, about 10-15 minutes from Bareyo depending on which way you go, La Taberna de Moisés brings together a bar, café, bakery and tobacconist under one roof — a common setup in the villages of Trasmiera, and one that works especially well here. The bread and pastries are made in-house, and the breakfast pinchos have a good reputation in the area. It opens early on weekdays and Sundays, though on Mondays it closes earlier, in the mid-afternoon.

At these four spots, breakfast works in much the same way: most open between 8:00 and 9:00am, except Café Flower, which opens at 7:00am. A full breakfast — coffee, juice and something to eat, whether omelette, pastry or toast — runs to about 3-6 euros per person at the places where we could confirm prices. None of them take bookings for breakfast; the one most likely to fill up early on high-season weekends is Café Flower, being right in the centre of Noja. By car from the villas, count on 10 to 15 minutes to any of them, except La Moderna, which is right in Ajo.
The best breakfast near Bareyo isn't the most photogenic one: it's the one that's stayed open for twenty years because the coffee is good and the price is fair.
