Traffic on the Cantabrian coast concentrates in two very clear windows: from noon to two in the afternoon, when everyone heads to the beach or to lunch, and from six to eight in the evening, on the way back. The A-8 and the roads into Santander, Suances and Comillas feel those peaks especially hard in August.
The car parks in Santillana del Mar usually fill up before half past ten in the morning on the hottest days; getting there before that time, or parking a little further away and walking five minutes, usually saves a lot more time than circling around looking for a spot.
