Ris and Trengandín beaches in Noja, Helgueras cove and Berria beach in Santoña all have a kiosk and sun lounger and umbrella rental in high season. No booking needed: you arrive, park and rent the gear right there on the sand, without carrying anything from home.
Carrying an umbrella, cool box, sun loungers and chairs from the car to the sand is, for many people, the least enjoyable part of a beach day, especially when the car park is a ten-minute walk from the shore. On several beaches near Bareyo you can skip that: there are kiosks and service points where you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas as soon as you arrive, and hand them back at the end of the day without lugging them back to the car.
This kind of service is concentrated on the most equipped beaches in the area, almost always the same ones with a lifeguard, showers and toilets through July and August, rather than the smaller or wilder coves, where you won't find any facilities at all. Ris beach, in Noja: sun lounger and umbrella rental by the seafront
Ris beach, in Noja, about 15 minutes from Bareyo, is one of the most complete beaches in the area: fine sand, calm water and a seafront promenade with kiosks that rent sun loungers and umbrellas in high season. Being sheltered inside Santoña bay, it usually has less swell than the beaches more exposed to the open Cantabrian Sea, which makes it a comfortable spot to spend the day without worrying about waves or where to plant your umbrella.
Trengandín beach, in Noja: more space with the same rental service
A short walk from Ris beach, Trengandín adds three kilometres of smooth sand next to the Santoña marshes, with a kiosk, showers and toilets. It's the roomier option if you want to get a bit further from the crowd of umbrellas in August while still having sun loungers for rent nearby, without walking much further than at Ris.
Helgueras cove: the sheltered cove with sun loungers for rent
Helgueras cove, also in Noja, is smaller and more intimate than the two beaches above, with the same sun lounger rental service alongside a handful of beachfront bars and restaurants. Being a sheltered cove, the water tends to be calmer, which is welcome if you're travelling with young children or would rather avoid the swell of the open Cantabrian Sea. Because of its size, it's the first to fill up on the hottest days.
Berria beach, in Santoña: almost two kilometres of sand with a rental kiosk
Berria beach, about 20 minutes from Bareyo, is a beach of almost two kilometres between the holm oak woods of Buciero and the Santoña marshes, as described by the official Cantabria Tourism website, with a lifeguard, showers and a sun lounger rental kiosk. Being so long, you'll always find space even if you arrive mid-morning in August, which isn't always the case on the smaller beaches in the area.
What to know before renting your sun lounger
The rental service mainly runs in high season, from June to September, and usually closes or cuts back its hours the rest of the year, so don't count on it outside those dates. Arrive early on the hottest days: even though sun loungers are rented on the spot with no booking needed, the spot on the sand to set up is still first come, first served, and the smaller beaches like Helgueras fill up before Berria or Trengandín. All of these beaches have parking nearby, but in August it's worth arriving before eleven in the morning to find a space without circling around or having to park far from the sand.

After a beach day without carrying anything, what's most welcome is not having much of a drive back, or having night fall before you get home. These four beaches are less than 20 minutes from Bareyo, on the stretch of coast between Ajo and Santoña, so there's plenty of time left for a shower and a relaxed dinner.
